WNMU students regularly look for ways to save a little cash. Tuition rates rise every year and books can extract several hundred dollars from a student's bank account. So when there's an opportunity to save a little money, students jump at the chance. Numerous businesses around town offer discounts that cater especially to those attending Western.

Alotta Gelato continuously supplies students with an endless supply of coupons, 25 cents off any gelato, which are printed in The Mustang and other publications. There are also various restaurants that give discounts with a valid student ID. The Grinder Mill, La Cocina, and Messiah Health Shoppe provide a ten percent off student discount. Papa John's offers a large one-topping pizza for $5.99, carryout only.

Monday February 28th, Blimpie Subs and Salads was giving out free 6 inch subs to all WNMU students with ID, but there was a catch. The giveaway lasted only four hours, and a filled-out credit card application was required to receive the sandwich.

Restaurants are not the only local businesses that provide student discounts. If on the lookout for discounts on good quality clothing, The Hot Spot and Morning Star have special prices for college-attending consumers. The Hot Spot offers ten percent off, and Morning Star offers various discounts depending on what is purchased.

Cienega, which has a wide variety of services and is known for it's luxurious spa treatment, offers a discount of ten percent off haircuts with student ID. Real West Cinema offers discounts on ticket prices.

Students have a few options when it comes to lowering out of pocket expenses. The Silver City businesses that provide student discounts plus other various sales help keep some bills low to make paying for school a little more manageable. The businesses that provide student discounts find that lowering prices draws customers in. Discount prices keep consumers coming back. Those businesses that don't offer student discounts find that it isn't very cost-effective to markdown prices because they normally don't gain additional customers as other businesses do.

One business in town is always frequented by WNMU shoppers, and that's Wal-Mart. "I go because I can get something to eat and a new CD all at the same time" says Stephanie Peterson. It's the place to go for everything you need. The convenience of finding everything needed, 24 hours a day at low prices brings in customers.
