Since the fall of 2003 she has also been employed as work-study in the Business Office and was excited when given the opportunity to show her work for all to see.
Even though her forte is photography Salas has been talented with a pencil and paintbrush since a young age. "Ever since I was little I've liked to doodle, color, and draw," said Salas. "My dad who is a draftsman has taught me a lot about drawing and is an inspiration. I remember always seeing my sister drawing so I would do it to."
Salas created the design for the business office on paper and then copied it on to an overhead transparency. From there she projected the image onto the wall to be traced. Now she is in the painting process of the mural. Salas works on her piece for several hours almost every day anticipates the mural to be complete within a couple of weeks.
Business Office Senior Cashier Shaw Marie Motes is impressed with her co-worker's skills. "I think her work is pretty awesome," said Motes. "It will be here for a long time and many students will get to see it." Jody Alderman, Business Office Accountant, thinks the mural is great and feels it will brighten up the place.
"I enjoy doing this," said Salas. "Everyone is supportive of my ideas." Salas plans to complete two murals in the Business Office by the end of summer.
She has also been asked by Multicultural Affairs/Student Activities and Campus Police to create murals in those departments as well.
