Both the Con Confianza Peer Leader program and student Ambassador program are proud to announce many new faces to their staffs.

The Con Confianza Peer Leadership program has gained twelve new employees in addition to seven returning staff members and two peer leaders at the Deming site. Each peer leader assists an instructor in a student success class to help incoming freshmen make the transition into college life. The peer leaders also have office hours in the Cetal Lab, located inside the library, where they are available to any student who has a question and to tutor in any field of study.

Peer leaders Jenny Brandt and Crystal Smith say they are here to inform not just new students but any student about what Western and the community has to offer. The Con Confianza Peer Leadership Program offers a place where students can help students succeed.

"I think it's a wonderful program, being surrounded by other students with good attitudes and positive ambitions. We peer leaders take a role in introducing new students into Western's community," says Rosa Romero-Flores, peer leader.

WNMU's Ambassadors also aid the collegiate population by helping with various campus events throughout the year. Current student ambassadors are Michelle Koba, Kristen Wilson, Luis Greer, and Jennifer Wright, and the program hopes to select four more for this academic school year. "Ambassadors assist with Homecoming and Spirit Week events," says Tina Rippa, the program's coordinator. They also help with other events such as commencement and student orientation during the summer.

"We work with all the different departments doing whatever is needed. We help give campus tours during orientation and help with campus events held throughout the year. It's great to know that you are one of the few people on campus selected to be an Ambassador," states Kristen Wilson.

Every year ambassadors are selected by committee, usually in the spring. Once selected, the ambassadors receive a scholarship of $250 a semester for their services.
