WNMU has four new clubs establishing themselves on campus. IMPACT, Ski Club Mixed Martial Arts Club, and the Outdoor Club. To make it official each club had to submit a club recognition form to ASWNMU, along with the constitution and a press release before deadline, six weeks into the semester.

IMPACT is a humanitarian based club where members participate in volunteer projects. The club holds meetings once a month and plans to take part in activities such as Habitat for Humanity projects. They also hope to become involved with community outreach programs and possibly the Red Cross.

"Right now, our primary goal is to raise money for book scholarships for students" says club president, Leah Gomez.
To raise funds for the scholarship, the club teamed up with the MASA for this year's Halloween Dance. The winner for the best costume received a MP3 Player and other prizes were raffled throughout the night. Contact Gomez at 313-5123 for more information.

The Ski Club hopes to get both students who are experienced skiers and those who want to learn. President Joe Stevenson wants to raise money to take the club skiing at various ski resorts in the southwest. To minimize club members out of pocket expenses, the club hopes to focus on fundraisers for the fall semester and use the funds to take trips early in the spring semester.

Members also hope to receive discount packages at ski resorts and possible sponsors to donate equipment to the club. The club is open to current students in good academic standing, while meetings and participation in club fundraisers are mandatory for those who hope to attend ski trips. Interested students can reach Joe at the WNMU mailroom.

The Mixed Martial Arts Club holds meetings every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in Graham Gym at 6:00pm. "It gives everyone a chance to go," says club advisor Dan Ryen. Dave Ruella and Sensei Frank Cornidez help teach moves and techniques.

Members train in many different styles, or they can specialize in on one specific style. Those who wish to compete hope to attend trips to Socorro, Las Cruses, and Arizona. Others can just sharpen their skills or use the club to learn self-defense. Those who are interested can contact Dan Ryen at 313-1919 for more information.

The Outdoor Club focuses on getting back to nature. Members hope to get out in the Silver City and Gila areas for some not far from home adventures. They plan outdoor activities such as group bike rides. The club hopes to bring people together to enjoy the scenery around Silver City and give them an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. Possible club activities include hikes, cycling, and camping trips. To learn about joining the club, contact Mikey "Richard" Rodriguez at 590-1121 for more details.

New clubs have until the sixth week of the Fall semester to file for recognition from ASWNMU.
