Attention artists! The Science Club is holding a contest for BEST DESIGN in its search for a new logo. The winner will receive a gift certificate for $20 worth of art supplies. Anyone who wishes can submit a design for publication can drop off an entry at Dr. Mary Dowse's office in Harlan Hall before the conclusion of the fall semester. The artist's name and contact information must be included with each entry. More than one drawing per person can be submitted.
All who enter are giving consent for their work to be published and used as the WNMU Science Club logo, if chosen. The illustration must be science related and easy to scan and reprintable for t-shirts.
The science club will meet early in the spring semester to judge the entries. The winner will be contacted shortly after and will be printed in the newspaper.
In addition, the Science Club is busy with projects and fundraisers. Members hope to raise enough money to take a trip to San Diego to get a behind the scenes look at Sea World and the San Diego Zoo. The itinerary is not yet set, but club members are optimistic. They hope to gain first hand experience with researchers and staff that care for the animals in captivity. The group also hopes to get a chance to see wildlife in their coastal habitat.
In order to reach this goal, club members host "Brown Bag Lunches" by bringing in guest speakers and selling pizza and snacks during the activity. Guest speakers are brought in to talk about a variety of topics and activities. The club also hopes to gain the support of local businesses by aiding in advertising in exchange for their sponsorship. All sponsors will be printed on the back of the club's t-shirts in gratitude for their support.
