Homecoming is upon us, and with it comes the all-important task of selecting the 2007-2008 Homecoming King and Queen. This year, things are going to be done a little bit differently; our traditionally large Court has been trimmed to three couples due and the selection process will not just include a popular vote, but also several competitions. All members of the Homecoming Court will be competing in the Talent Show on Thursday evening, as well as testing their pop culture knowledge during Friday night's bonfire. The court will also be wearing togas all week to help promote the Greek theme. This year's Homecoming Court includes: Crystal Smith, DJ Nicholas, Brenda Jimenez, Ricardo Medrano, Tiffany Bass, and Cameron Wagoner.

Princess Crystal Smith is the daughter of Martin and Joyce Smith. The 22-year-old native of El Paso, Texas, is studying Rehabilitation and Occupational Therapy. Crystal is an Associated Students of WNMU Senator, a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC), and a member of the Students of Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA). She is a former member of the Lady Mustang basketball team in which she served as Captain. Crystal is currently the Student Assistant Coach for the women's basketball team, and counts her teammates among her heroes. If she becomes Homecoming Queen, Princess Crystal will be dedicated to being the best Queen in the history of the school.

Prince DJ Nicholas is a 19-year-old native of Glendale, Arizona. He is the son of Patricia Bradford and Clyde Green. So far, he is undecided about what he will major in and is just taking general education classes. DJ is about to begin his second season as a member of the Men's Mustang basketball team in which last season, he was awarded the RMAC Freshman of the Year award. Like Princess Crystal DJ has also serves as a representative to the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. Prince DJ feels that he would make a good Homecoming King because he is kind of a big deal and people know him.

Princess Brenda Elizabeth Jimenez is a 23-year-old native of Deming, New Mexico. She is the daughter of Rodrigo and Guadalupe Jimenez, and is employed at the Mimbres Memorial Hospital in Deming. She is currently studying elementary and bilingual education. Brenda is a member of the ASWNMU recognized Amigos club and was the first place winner in this year's Spanish Spelling Bee here at WNMU. Princess Brenda hopes to be selected Homecoming Queen because being the queen and representing WNMU would be a huge honor to her.

Prince Ricardo Medrano is a native of Hurley, New Mexico, and is currently studying Spanish and Theatre here at WNMU. He is the 23-year-old son of Benito and Maria Medrano. He, just like Princess Brenda, is involved with the Amigos club and is a member of the Spanish Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi. Prince Ricardo is employed by Walmart of Silver City and believes he should be Homecoming King because he has always dreamed of representing his university with great honor.

Princess Tiffany Bass is a 2006 graduate of WNMU, having earned a Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree. She is currently a graduate student, studying graphic design and education. The 23 year old daughter of BJ and Sherry Newton, Princess Tifany calls Albuquerque home. She is employed by the Child Development Center and also by the Mimbres Regional Arts Council. Princess Tiffany's extracurricular activities include serving as Senator Pro Tempore for ASWNMU, and being a member of the Jump Rope club. She is one of the strongest people you will ever meet and feels she should be Homecoming Queen because she is Tiffany.

Prince Cameron Wagoner is a 23 year old native of Seattle, Washington. The self-proclaimed "Army Brat" is the son of Ron and Deanna Wagoner. Prince Cameron is double-majoring in biology and botany and is employed by the Natural Sciences department. In addition to being a Dean's List student, Prince Cameron is also very involved on campus. He is the Social Officer and committee chairman for the Gamma Alpha fraternity. He also serves as vice president of the Outdoors club and is a member of both the Science and Mixed-Martial Arts clubs. Prince Cameron loves the outdoors, thus resulting in him counting Jimmie Hendrix, Jacque Cousteau, and Steve Irwin among his personal heroes. He believes he would be the best Homecoming King because he has put in countless hours trying to improve campus life and feels this would be an awesome cap on his college days, since he will be graduating soon.

Voting for Homecoming King and Queen will take place on Friday, October 19th 2007, from 8 am to 4 pm, on the first floor of the Student Memorial Building. A picture ID will be required for all students to place your votes. The 2007 WNMU Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at halftime of the WNMU vs. NMHU Homecoming football game on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 1pm.
