So Many Cars, I'm Exhausted!

For anyone that can sympathize with me, for that person who rides their bike to class, and chokes every time a diesel truck pulls ahead, this is for you. This is for those who believe that we are better than what we are currently experiencing. The Earth is a resilient planet that has survived numerous extinctions, yet we humans are causing an extinction rate greater than the loss of species during all of those natural extinction events combined. Our lust for better, faster, stronger, has led us to a worldwide epidemic of pollution, poverty, and I believe as a result, crime. What's the rush people?
It is time that we take this problem seriously, and fix it. We are better than this as humans; for if we have come this far in our seven plus million years of hominid evolution to ruin it all in under two-hundred, do we really deserve to go on? I believe we can change. I believe that each and every one of us really does want to see this world survive. Yet to some, pollution is trivial. What is climate change matter when we have two wars going on? These are likely also the people who don't see that at least one of these wars (Iraq) is directly tied to climate change, through the desire of fossil fuels.
Ignorance is not stupidity, it is the choice to not pay attention, to ignore a problem when it is staring you in the face. For me, how can I be ignorant of this when I breath it in every day I ride my bike up 12th St. towards campus. I am going to suggest something. If you live on or within a mile of the campus, walk, or ride a bike. I understand that some of our students have to drive all the way from other towns such as Lordsburg, or Deming. I am not asking you to stop driving, but maybe you should consider carpooling with others, or even moving to Silver (yeah I know it's a long shot).
The point is that we need to change as a society. NOW. Stop thinking about convenience, start thinking about your own health, and the health of those who are having to breath in your filthy exhaust every time you drive around.
Please let me know how you feel, I'm open to all opinions, and suggestions for improvement. You can email them to me at ennesa@wnmu.edu
