WNMU MUSEUM SEEKS KOREAN WAR MEMORABILIA
SILVER CITY - A successful exhibition featuring local World War II veterans at the Western New Mexico University Museum has led to the upcoming temporary exhibition "Korean War Veterans: Remembering the Forgotten."
The exhibition will pay tribute to citizens and families who courageously served the country during the Korean War. It is tentatively scheduled to run from July 20, 2009 to October 31, 2009.
Last summer, the WNMU Museum created a temporary exhibition dedicated to citizens of the Grant County area who served in World War II. Museum staff members called upon families in the area to help with loaning memorabilia on a temporary basis.
"In many cases, people who had memorabilia on display in their homes or in a box in the closet were not sure if items they had could help," said Phillip Cave, Acting Museum Services Manager. "Thanks to their generosity they helped make that exhibition a success."
The WNMU Museum is again asking the community for help with its new exhibition. The Museum needs items such as photographs, unit yearbooks, newspapers, military medals, and even uniforms to help aid in developing the exhibition.
The upcoming exhibit is funded by student fees from the Associated Students of WNMU.
The WNMU Museum is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
To contribute to the exhibit, contact Cave, Korean War Exhibition Co-Curator, at 575-538-6386 or cavep@wnmu.edu; or John Berry, WNMU Museum Graduate Assistant/Co-Curator at 575-538-6386 or berryj1@wnmu.edu.
